Disclaimer

The calculators on this site give general starting points for hobby and light workshop use. They are not a substitute for the tooling or material manufacturer’s data, engineering judgement, or proper training.

  • Speeds, feeds and power are typical values that depend heavily on your machine, set-up, tooling, coolant and the actual condition of the material. Start at the low end and adjust.
  • Values marked est. are rules of thumb or estimates that have not been confirmed against a published reference.
  • Thread dimensions are basic-profile sizes. They do not include tolerances. Check fit with gauges or a mating part.
  • Don’t rely on the results for safety-critical, pressure-containing or load-bearing parts without independent verification to the relevant standard.

Safety

Machine tools can cause serious injury. Wear eye protection, keep guards in place, tie back hair and loose clothing, never wear gloves near rotating work, never leave a chuck key in the chuck, and isolate the machine before changing gears or tooling.

Limitation of liability

The site and its calculators are provided free of charge and “as is”. We take care over the figures but we don’t promise they are complete, accurate or suitable for any particular job, and you use them at your own risk. Always check results against the tooling or material manufacturer’s data, the applicable standard and the drawing or purchase specification.

So far as the law allows, Lathe Calculator is not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, this site. This includes damage to machines, tools or workpieces, scrapped parts, lost profit, business interruption, or any indirect or consequential loss.

Nothing in this disclaimer excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of England and Wales (including under the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 and the Consumer Rights Act 2015). If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected.
